  556.        For hosts in a PCP mmmmoooonnnniiiittttoooorrrr----oooonnnnllllyyyy ccccoooonnnnffffiiiigggguuuurrrraaaattttiiiioooonnnn which are
  557.        upgraded to PCP 2.x and used to monitor remote PCP collector
  558.        hosts runnning PCP 1.x, the IRIX metrics must appear in the
  559.        local Performance Metrics Name Space (PMNS) on the PCP
  560.        monitor host.
  561.  
  562.        For IRIX 6.5 systems, the IRIX metrics are included in the
  563.        PMNS from the _p_c_p__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e subsystem, so there is no
  564.        issue.
  565.  
  566.        For systems running earlier IRIX releases, the IRIX metrics
  567.        are included with the _l_i_b_i_r_i_x_p_m_d_a patches, as described in
  568.        the table above.
  569.  
  570.        The work around then, even if ppppmmmmccccdddd(1) is not running, is to
  571.        install the appropriate _l_i_b_i_r_i_x_p_m_d_a patch on the PCP monitor
  572.        system, and then run the following commands as rrrrooooooootttt:
  573.  
  574.            # cd /var/pcp/pmns
  575.            # ./Rebuild -du
  576.  
  577.        There is no issue if the remote PCP collector hosts are
  578.        running PCP 2.x as the distributed name space services will
  579.        be used in preference to any local PMNS.
  580.  
  581.        The _p_c_p__e_o_e._b_o_o_k_s.* subsystems require the _i_n_s_i_g_h_t__b_a_s_e._s_w
  582.        images to be installed.
  583.  
  584.        The _p_c_p__e_o_e._s_w._m_o_n_i_t_o_r utilities require dynamic shared
  585.        libraries from the subsystems: _V_i_e_w_K_i_t__e_o_e._s_w._b_a_s_e and
  586.        _i_n_v_e_n_t_o_r__e_o_e._s_w._i_n_v_e_n_t_o_r (version 2.1 or later).

  588.        If the Performance Metrics Collector Daemon (PMCD) is
  589.        already running on the system to which the new installation
  590.        is going to be applied, then you must terminate ppppmmmmccccdddd before
  591.        starting the installation.  Similarly, any instance of the
  592.        ppppmmmmllllooooggggggggeeeerrrr utility should be terminated.  For example, use the
  593.        following commands as rrrrooooooootttt:
  594.  
  595.            # /etc/init.d/pcp stop
  596.            # killall -INT pmlogger
  597.  
  598.        This is necessary because the subsystems to be installed
  599.        include new versions of shared libraries (DSOs) that may be
  600.        used by these PCP utilities.

  622.        If you have PCP 1.x installed and are concurrently upgrading
  623.        IRIX and PCP, or have PCP 2.x installed and are upgrading
  624.        IRIX, then there are some complex product interdependencies
  625.        that are best addressed by following the recommended
  626.        procedures below.

  641.        In this case it is possible to perform both upgrades
  642.        concurrently, but this involves a fair degree of CD swapping
  643.        and delaying the conflict resolutions.

  645.        A simpler solution is:

  647.          1.  Force the removal of _p_c_p and _p_c_p__e_o_e, but none of the
  648.              add-ons products which depend on _p_c_p or _p_c_p__e_o_e (e.g.
  649.              _p_c_p__w_e_b or _p_c_p__o_r_a_7) as these dependencies will be
  650.              again satisfied once PCP 2.x is installed, i.e.
  651.                  # versions -F remove pcp pcp_eoe
  652.  
  653.          2.  Upgrade IRIX.
  654.  
  655.          3.  Re-install _p_c_p__e_o_e and _p_c_p from the PCP 2.1 CD.

  686.        A ppppmmmmiiiieeee(1) process can be run as a daemon as part of the
  687.        system startup sequence, and can thus be used to perform
  688.        automated, live performance monitoring of a running system.

  694.        By default, these enable a single ppppmmmmiiiieeee process monitoring
  695.        the local host, with the default set of ppppmmmmiiiieeeeccccoooonnnnffff(1) rules
  696.        enabled.  Refer to ppppmmmmiiiieeeeccccoooonnnnffff(1) for more details.

  698.        2.8  _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y
  699.  
  700.        PCP 2.1 involves evolutionary changes that may affect some
  701.        PCP upgrades and PCP add-on products and/or applications
  702.        developed using the PCP libraries.  Refer to section 3 of
  703.        these release notes and the _p_c_p release notes for a complete
  704.        discussion of these issues.

  706.        2.9  _C_o_n_f_i_g_u_r_a_t_i_o_n__F_i_l_e_s

  708.        It is expected that no configuration changes will be
  709.        required for the _p_c_p__e_o_e product, however if the _p_c_p product
  710.        is also installed, then a variety of site-specific
  711.        customizations may be involved.  Refer to the _p_c_p release
  712.        notes for more details.

  724.        After installation has completed you should run the command

  728.        This will list files that have been customized for your site
  729.        and that were changed at the most recent _p_c_p__e_o_e

  732.        ....NNNN extension.  You must reconcile any differences between
  733.        the files by hand.
